Christmas

As we conclude December prior to Christmas Break, I wanted to highlight the following verse for our community:

John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

We look forward to gathering tomorrow for our Christmas Gift Chapel and are grateful for the opportunity to lift the name of Jesus high. Student presentations, gifts to a variety of ministries, and Christmas carols provide a brilliant conclusion to our month of December. Thank you for your partnership which allows opportunities like our annual gift chapel.

Appearance Code Refresher for the New Year!

I know that with Christmas there may be some gifts that generate new outfits for school, and I thought it would be helpful to provide a refresher for everyone!  Additionally, some of the outfits that you purchased this summer for the beginning of the school year may no longer fit as we head into the spring months – yes, your children are growing!  Please double-check to be sure that your children are following the WCGS Appearance Code guidelines daily.  The primary goal is that students are modest, neat, and safe.  Our teachers and administrators do their very best to enforce the appearance code daily.  We don’t scan students regularly to see if they are “in code,” as that is not our heart in the matter.  When we see something that doesn’t align with our appearance code, we do say something. We obviously don’t catch everything, but we are trying to be consistent.  Please actively support the school by enforcing the appearance code at home before they come to school. Thank you!

There are a few areas that I have highlighted in the Appearance Code Refresher.  We have included some pictures to help represent what is permitted and what is not.  I hope this is helpful in providing some clarity.

  • Shirts for boys and girls
  • WCGS Spirit Wear
  • Sweatshirts/sweaters
  • Lower garments
  • Footwear

Thank you for reviewing this document and helping us hold your children accountable to these expectations.

Health Form Reminders

  • All students in kindergarten, second, and sixth grade need a dental exam filled out and turned in by May 15. Please schedule this appointment if you have not already done so.
  • All students in fifth through eighth grade who want to play a spring sport will need to turn in a physical prior to tryouts if they have not already turned one in.
  • All fifth graders will need a physical prior to their sixth-grade year. Now is a great time to schedule those! Summer appointments fill up quickly.

STEAM+ Notes

Family Reading Night + STEM Fair = STREAM Fair

The Family Reading Night and STEM Fair are combining for ONE epic night! Mark your calendar for the STREAM Fair on Tuesday, January 27, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. You will not want to miss the opportunity for students of all ages to ignite their passion for reading and science through the integration of science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and mathematics. This event will allow preschoolers through eighth graders to enjoy story times, reading to dogs, crafts, games, hands-on science experiments, demonstrations, and discovery exhibits, while also shopping for amazing science books, STEM kits, and take-home experiments provide through the SciZooka STEAM shop.

Notable Notes

Free HDMI Cables!

Due to the extensive re-wiring we did over the summer, we have a plethora of HDMI cables that need a home (rather than in the tech trash heap).  There are lengths ranging from 12’ to 25’.  Feel free to take as many as you need!  They are great for connecting that new TV you are getting for Christmas especially when the box says, “HDMI cable not included.” Stop by the front desk to grab what you need.
