The WCGS Difference – A Parent’s Perspective

My husband and I moved to Wheaton in 2011 from Virginia after also living in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Texas, and Illinois. We felt led to seek a Christian education after experiencing several different public schools in various states. Not only has the Lord richly blessed our family with roots here in Wheaton, but He has given us the gift of WCGS, and for that, we are eternally grateful!

My youngest is in 7^th grade this year and started at WCGS as a kindergartener. I also have two older children who have graduated from WCGS. I have loved watching my children grow up in these hallways. WCGS has such caring and loving teachers and exceptional supporting staff and administration. A few situations that illustrate this in the life of my family center on some unexpected health situations we have had to deal with over the years.

When my oldest was recovering from a dreaded knee surgery in 8^th Grade and was confined to the couch, Mr. Clum rang our doorbell and surprised him with an enormous bag of popcorn from the Popcorn Shop to cheer him up. (It worked!) When my other son had an emergency appendectomy in 5^th grade, it was Mr. Burgess who took the time to visit him in the hospital and supply him with some M&Ms after his surgery.

When my daughter Sophie had to miss school for several days because of a diagnostic test, her precious 2^nd grade teacher, Mrs. Mitchell, drove out to our house to encourage her with hugs and letters of support from classmates. For a child to feel that kind of love from a teacher, a Principal, a coach…is priceless.

In each situation, I was overwhelmed and amazed by the way these individuals became the hands and feet of Christ. It is my prayer that as our children develop their educational knowledge; that their spiritual journey with our Lord and Savior will grow just as abundantly. WCGS is a platform for that kind of growth!

WCGS is a special place. I am so thankful that the Lord brought us here.
