FLANNEL FORMAL Scholarship Auction & Trivia Night – November 13, 6:30 p.m.

Our Scholarship Auction is just two weeks away, and the room is filling up! If you’re planning to join us, please RSVP soon as we’re getting close to capacity. Our amazing lineup of items goes live November 7!

Wondering what to wear? Don’t stress! Think somewhat dressed up with plaid accents. Feel free to have fun with it!

Thank you to everyone who has already played a role in making this event a success. Whether it’s through donating an item or service, contributing to a class basket, RSVPing to attend, planning to participate online, or offering an encouraging word, we are so grateful for the ways our community rallies to support a WCGS Christian education!

We also want to give a shout out of gratitude to our amazing event sponsors:

Buffet Sponsor: Electric Conduit Construction Company

Table Sponsors: Asbury University | Benjamin F. Edwards | Central DuPage Orthodontics | Carly Brust Collection for Compass Real Estate | Curtis Climate | Dental Care of Glen Ellyn | Monarch Clinics | Olivet Nazarene University | Orleans Home Fragrance | Savant Wealth Management | Terrace Supply Company | Wheaton College | Wheaton Lighting

What an incredible community! We still have room for a couple of last-minute sponsors. Reach out to Shannon McDonald if you’d like to join us in supporting WCGS in that way.

After-School Supervision

With the beautiful weather that we have been experiencing, we have noticed many students playing on the playground after school. We love that they are enjoying the playground and their friends! Please keep in mind that it is the parents’ responsibility to supervise their children after school, starting at 3:15 p.m. for grades 6-8 and 3:25 p.m. for grades K-5. We ask that if your child is playing outside, you are visibly supervising them. I realize that some of you may be watching your children from your vehicles, but this is challenging for us to monitor. If we do not see a parent supervising a child after school, we may ask the child to join Extended Care, and the family would be billed accordingly. Please know that we are doing this because we take the safety of your children seriously. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Library News

Reading Roundup Book Fair Photo Contest!

This year students will have the opportunity to participate in a photo contest to win book fair gift cards! Students have loved seeing pictures of readers on our library windows from the summer reading program, so we are giving them another chance to get caught reading—in our reading roundup! Click here for all the details. Pictures cannot be the same ones submitted for the summer reading program. We look forward to rounding up more readers!

Volunteer Readers Needed to Create AR Tests for Chistian Books

If you enjoy reading and would like to make some of our Christian titles more appealing for our students in grades 3-5, we have a job for you! While many Christian books have official AR tests, occasionally some do not, and we are in the process of writing tests for those books to make them just as appealing as any other book for students who do AR. This task would involve reading the book and writing a 10-question multiple-choice comprehension quiz in a template provided by Mrs. Brown. Please email Mrs. Brown if you are interested and/or stop by the library to choose one or more books. We currently have fantasies, biblical retellings, and apologetics books that are in need of quizzes. Thank you!

Book Fair Volunteers Needed!

We will need many parent volunteers during all parts of the fair including:

  • Set-up times on November 16 and 17
  • Before, during and after school timeslots to help with book selection and sales on November 18, 19, 20, and 23
  • Sales and activities at our Family Night on Thursday, November 20
  • Sales on Grandparents Day on Tuesday, November 24

If you are able to volunteer, please sign-up HERE. Classes will be coming during their normal library time which is listed in the sign up. Additional information for KE, 3rd and Jr high will be added to the Sign-Up Genius as it is confirmed with teachers.

Notable Notes

Writing Club

Parents of students in Grades 3-8, WCGS is delighted to offer your child an opportunity to participate in the WCGS Writing Club. This is a chance for your child to grow as an author by writing an original piece, receiving feedback, and publishing what they have written. Club meetings will give students the opportunity to hone their craft, connect with a community of authors, and grow through writing exercises. Students who participate will also have their writing submitted to a panel of judges, where they will be scored and receive feedback based on their chosen genre. Winners will be selected and announced at the Awards Assembly in May. In addition, those who participate will also see their final draft published. More information and the permission slip can be found here.

Last Chance for Veterans Day Submissions!

We have always looked forward to our annual Veterans Day Assembly each November. We believe it is important that we pause and remember all that this day represents. Our assembly will be taking place in the gym on Wednesday, November 11, at 9:00 a.m. We’d love to honor the veterans in our school community by showing their picture in a slide show that students will see during the program. Any student with a parent, grandparent, or other family member who IS or HAS BEEN a member of the Armed Forces is invited to email a picture of that individual to Lauren Fortosis by Friday, October 30, so that it can be included in a tribute video. (If you have submitted information for the video in the past, we will automatically include it in this year’s video unless you contact us indicating that it needs to be removed). Please include the following information with your picture:

  • Student Name:
  • Veteran’s/Active Duty Soldier’s Name:
  • Relationship to Student:
  • Branch of Service:

We would also love to invite veterans who are family members of current students to attend the assembly (in uniform if possible) to be introduced. Our guests of honor and their families will have a reserved seating section that is easily accessible and a brief reception following the assembly. If you have a veteran who can attend, please RSVP to Lauren Fortosis by Wednesday, November 4.
