Winter Weather Update

The realities of another Chicago winter are upon us, so we wanted to review with you the many ways in which you can find out if WCGS is closed on a given day because of the weather or for any other emergency.

  • EMAIL – After consulting with other local school administrators, should the decision be made to close school OR to start school late, an email will be sent around 6:00 a.m. via FACTS advising families of the change in school status.
  • SCHOOL WEBSITE – A message explaining any change in school status will be placed on the front page of our school website.
  • SCHOOL PHONE MESSAGE – A message explaining any change in school status will be recorded and placed on the school’s phone system.
  • EMERGENCY CLOSING CENTER – Go to the Emergency Closing Center website and search for our school by typing the school name (Wheaton Christian Grammar School) and city (Winfield) or the school phone number (630-668-1385)

Nurse Notes

Changing Seasons

As the seasons change, we often see a change in illnesses as well. Right now, the county is seeing both influenza A and B. If your child has a persistent cough that is not getting better or is associated with fevers, it is a good idea to take them into your doctor for evaluation. Once their cough is controlled, and they are fever free for 24 hours they may return to school. Please feel free to email nurse@wheatonchristian.org if you ever have a question about your child returning to school after illness.

Now is also a great time to make sure your student has a coat, hat, and gloves. Recess is always outside unless it is bitter cold or raining. Having a change of clothes is also a great idea, especially pants and socks! Our students love to find the one puddle or patch of mud 😍

Family Night

Other Important Information:

Class visits to the Book Fair: All K-5 classes will come through the fair during their regular library time from Wednesday, November 19 through Monday, November 24. Tuesday library classes and grades 6-8 will be told the time of their book fair visit by their teachers. When students come to the fair, they will be able to shop at that time if you send them with cash, OR they can make a wish list and shop with you during other open hours. You are, of course, welcome to come sooner than their library day during the before and after-school hours.

Library Book Checkout: Students will not come to the library with their classes during the week of the book fair, but we will advertise shorter open hours when students can get new books if they need to. No books will be due during the book fair.

Teacher Wish Lists: Buy a book for your teacher’s classroom library! Teachers will be making wish lists of items that they would like to add to their collections, so be on the lookout for that when you visit the fair.

Notable Notes

ILMEA Honors Choral Students

Congratulations to Brendan and Connor Lutz who have auditioned to qualify for both the regional and state ILMEA Choral Festivals! Each year the Illinois Music Education Association puts on a highly competitive choral festival held in each district. This Saturday, Brendan and Connor will join other singers from our district for a full day of work with highly sought after choral clinicians and will also perform with these musicians in a district-wide concert. Brendan and Connor’s high scores have additionally qualified them to participate in the ILMEA All-State festival in February which is a two-day event that will draw some of the best choral students from across the state. We are excited to congratulate these students on their achievements and cheer them on as they represent the WCGS choral program on both the district and state levels!

Fathers’ Prayer Breakfast

The Fathers’ Prayer Breakfast has been rescheduled. Fathers, please plan to join us for prayer and breakfast on Saturday, December 6, from 7:30–8:30 a.m. Note that we will no longer meet on November 22.
