Spring Break and Easter

I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a wonderful spring break.  I have always found the week to be an opportunity for a change of pace, and I am praying the Lord uses it in our community and in our families.  We are grateful for you and look forward to the rest of fourth quarter upon our return to classes on Tuesday, April 7.

We look forward to celebrating the gift of Easter during our chapels on Wednesday, April 8.  I trust your family will be able to spend time together reflecting on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus during this upcoming week.  We serve a remarkable God.  Be encouraged by Luke 24:5b-6a – “Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here; He has risen!”

MAP Growth Testing in April

Similar to in the fall, our students will be taking the MAP Growth Assessment in April. All students will be taking one test in math and one test in reading with their homeroom teacher. Each test will average approximately one hour. Below are the testing dates for students at the various grade levels:

  • Monday, April 13 – Wednesday, April 15: Grades 6-8
  • Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17: Grades 4-5
  • Monday, April 20 and Tuesday, April 21: Grades 2-3
  • Wednesday, April 22 and Thursday, April 23: Grades K-1

It is extremely important that your children are in attendance on these days so that they take the test with their class. As it states in our Parent Handbook each year, “Unless students are sick, they must be in attendance during MAP Growth testing. Please do not schedule vacations or appointments during these dates. Making up testing is very difficult and time-consuming. Unavoidable illnesses are understandable, and teachers will work with students to get all their testing done; however, planned absences that cause a student to miss one or more subtests during the dates of test administration will incur a $25 charge (per day) to cover the cost of the proctor to administer the test to the student. This fee will be billed to your account.”

Report Cards

Teachers have worked diligently this week to prepare your child’s report card for 3rd quarter. Much prayer, thought, and time goes into these reports. We hope that they give you a snapshot of the growth of your child over the past nine weeks, as well as the overall growth these first three quarters of the school year. Please take note of their academic progress, but also their development socially, emotionally, and spiritually. We desire to see them make gains in each of these areas as they head into the last quarter of the school year. Thank you for your continued partnership in working towards this goal; it is certainly a team effort! Third quarter report cards will be sent electronically to parents at around 3:30 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, March 27. Have a restful spring break!
