WCGS Chess Team State Tournament Results
The WCGS Chess team participated in the State Tournament this weekend, the pinnacle of the chess season for K-8 students in Ilinois. This year, there were 739 players participating – the highest number in a decade. The competition was stiff as there were many good players there.

Our 2nd-3rd grade team managed to tie for 10th place, missing out on a trophy due to tiebreakers.
The Chess Team is led by school parent, Rose Grandy, who works diligently to ensure that the team has the best coaches and resources to prepare them for competition. The team is thankful for Rose and coaches; Nathan, Mac, and Eddie, who lead and spent their weekend coaching and reviewing games to help the WCGS team learn and improve.
The WCGS Chess Team worked hard and competed with great sportsmanship.
The WCGS Chess Team is open to all interested players in grades K-8. No prior knowledge of chess is required but students new to chess should sign up for the “introduction to chess” class.
