See You at the Pole

SYATP is Wednesday, September 25, at 8:00 a.m. Our eighth graders are planning and organizing this school-wide prayer time. There will be singing, large group prayer times, and small group prayer times by grade level. See You at the Pole is a student-initiated and student-led movement that started in Burleson, Texas, in 1990. SYATP brings students to their school flag poles to intercede for their leaders, schools, and families, asking God to bring moral and spiritual awakening to their campuses and countries. Faculty and parents will gather around the students at the flagpole in the front of the school. Parents who drive by the front of the school need to drive slowly and carefully. We will have 1-2 lanes blocked off to make room by our flagpole for those praying. We hope to see you there!

Supervision on the Playground

With the beautiful weather that we have been experiencing since the start of the school year, we have noticed several students playing on the playground before school. We love that they are enjoying the playground and their friends before their school day begins. Please keep in mind that it is the parents’ responsibility to supervise their children before school. We ask that if your child is playing on the playground or blacktop, you are visibly supervising them. I realize that some of you are watching your children from your vehicles, but this is challenging for us to monitor. If we do not see a parent supervising a child before school, we may ask the child to come into the building and go to Extended Care, and the family will be billed accordingly. Please know that we are doing this because we take the safety of your children seriously. Thank you for your understanding and support.

School Pictures are Ready! 📸

You should have received an email from Jostens School Photography informing you that “School pictures are ready!” with ordering instructions. Using the link from the email will be the easiest way for you to access your gallery and order your pictures. You will also be able to sign up for retakes through the site. Photos are shipped directly to your home. Order fast for the limited time offer of FREE SHIPPING when ordered before 9/24/24 (Promo Code: E5Q3X2Q). Class composites will be available to view and purchase after retakes. If you did not receive the email from Jostens (please search your inbox and spam folders), contact Shannon McDonald.

Picture Retakes on Monday, October 7

  • IF YOUR CHILD WAS ABSENT ON PICTURE DAY… he/she has been automatically added to our retake list, which will take place during normal school hours on October 7. No need to do anything further.
  • IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH HOW PICTURES TURNED OUT…you have the option to sign up for retakes on the JostensPIX website. Be warned that the retake will be the picture that is used for the yearbook. (While you have the option to select which pose you would like to purchase, yearbook poses are selected by Jostens).  To sign up, look for the link at the top right of the JostensPIX site that reads “SIGN UP FOR RETAKES,” and your student will be added to the list.

IESA State Boys’ Golf Tournament.

Following an even par 71 to win Sectionals in Rockford, Lucas Burkhart (6th grade) traveled to Metamora Fields Golf Club (near Peoria) this past Friday to compete in the State Finals.  Lucas competed well and shot a 7 over par 78 to finish tied for 18th in State.  This is a great accomplishment for a sixth grade student, especially since there were 80 golfers competing.  His 78 was the lowest score among the other eight sixth graders who competed at State this year.  We’re proud of Lucas, how he represented WCGS, and are excited about the prospects of the future and hopefully competing at the State level again the next two years.  Thanks for your encouragement and support of Lucas and the golf program.

Before-School Extended Care

Based on our current enrollment in the Before-School Extended Care Program, we are closing the registration process at this time.  If spots become available in the future, we will notify our families.  We are glad to be able to offer this program to support working parents on a daily basis!

2025-2026 Admissions Applications

We love welcoming siblings of our current students! Applications for admissions for 2025-2026 are available on FACTS Family Portal. Current WCGS families will have priority in admissions if the application is submitted by September 30, 2024. Please contact Admissions Director, Kim Norbeck, if you have any questions about the admissions process.

Backpack Donation

Looking for a place to donate your gently used backpacks? Bring them to WCGS and place them in the utility tote labeled Serve for Hope Uganda located just inside Door #1. Leonard and Lauren Matovu (parents of Joelle, 2S) founded and lead a ministry called Serve for Hope Uganda located in Namungoona, Uganda. Through a variety of programs, the Matovus and their team in Uganda aim to share the love of Christ and provide quality education to students in need. One way this is accomplished is by providing backpacks filled with school supplies which will be distributed at the start of the Ugandan school year (late January/early February). Thanks for your partnership in sharing the love of Christ and providing quality education for students in need!
