Christmas

As we conclude December prior to Christmas Break, I wanted to highlight the following verse for our community:

John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

We look forward to gathering tomorrow for our Christmas Gift Chapel and are grateful for the opportunity to lift the name of Jesus high. Student presentations, gifts to a variety of ministries, and Christmas carols provide a brilliant conclusion to our month of December. Thank you for your partnership which allows opportunities like our annual gift chapel.

Appearance Code Refresher for the New Year!  I know that with Christmas there may be some gifts that generate new outfits for school, and I thought it would be helpful to provide a refresher for everyone!  Additionally, some of the outfits that you purchased this summer may no longer fit, as your children are growing!  Please double-check to be sure that your children are following the WCGS Appearance Code guidelines daily.  The primary goal is that students are modest, neat, and safe.  Our teachers and administrators do their very best to enforce the appearance code daily.  We don’t scan students regularly to see if they are “in code,” as that is not our heart in the matter.  When we see something that doesn’t align with our appearance code, we do say something.  We obviously don’t catch everything, but we are trying to be consistent.  Please actively support the school by enforcing the appearance code at home. Thank you!

There are a few areas that I have highlighted in the attachment – Appearance Code Refresher.  We have included some pictures to help represent what is permitted and what is not.  I hope this is helpful in providing some clarity.

  • Shirts for boys and girls
  • WCGS Spirit Wear
  • Sweatshirts/sweaters
  • Lower garments
  • Footwear

Thank you for reviewing this document and helping us hold your children accountable to these expectations.

Library News

Christmas Book Checkout

Students are welcome to keep their library books over Christmas break. In fact, students in grades 1-8 will be able to choose one extra book if they would like to. You may notice that all books checked out prior to Christmas break will be marked as due on Monday, January 6. However, we will renew all books due on January 6 automatically when we return from break. This will give one additional loan period (1 week for grades K-2 and 2 weeks for grades 3-8) for each book due on that day.

Also, you will likely receive an automated email this week notifying you that your child’s books are due in “1 school day” or “2 school days.” This is referring to the January 6 due date since none of the days of Christmas break are counted. You can ignore this email.

Notable Notes

Grandparents’ Day Video

Please be sure to pass this Grandparents’ Day Thank You Video along to Grandparents’ Day attendees to enjoy! All grandparents in our email list should have received it last week, but we’d love to be extra sure loved ones get to see it!

Dominican Republic Mission Trip

We are thrilled to see the continued growth of our 8th grade mission trip with Kids Alive International.  The number has grown from 40 to 80!  Please be in prayer over this team as they seek to serve and grow. The trip will take place January 4-11, 2025.
