Christmas
As we continue to move through the Advent season, be encouraged by the truth of Luke 2:10-11. “But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.”
We are celebrating the good news of Christ at WCGS and are so grateful for the gift of our Savior.
The Winter Chalkboard is Here!
Be on the lookout for the publication to come home in the backpack of your youngest student today or tomorrow. You should also receive a digital version in your email inbox soon. As you read about the growth of this campus, the legacy of school families, the cultivation of spiritual formation, and so much more, may you be encouraged by the work God is doing in the next generation. Thank you for your partnership!

Christmas 2024
What a joy it has been to celebrate this beautiful season of Advent with your children these past 2 weeks…and I can’t wait for what next week will hold! I wish that you could be in our building daily to see what is taking place – music concerts, Christmas stories being read in classrooms, Advent devotionals, special times of prayer, and service opportunities, just to name a few! I believe our students have gained a much deeper appreciation for the special gift that was given to us of a Savior. As we celebrate this Christmas, it is our hope that each of us will fall more in love with Jesus and appreciate more deeply what we have in and through Him.
Pick-Up During Cold Weather
Things have been operating smoothly with our traffic before and after school. Thank you for your patience and adherence to our guidelines. I know that with the colder weather upon us, being able to pick up your child right away after school is important. Since more parents are remaining in their vehicles and trying to pick their children up in the pick-up lane (the lane closest to the curb), there has been a backup that occurs for about the first 5 minutes after the bell rings at the end of the day. After those five minutes, things seem to open up. Given the volume of cars, I don’t expect it to go away completely, but if you are concerned about getting to your child immediately after the bell rings, I would encourage you to get to school a few minutes early and park in a parking space. This will allow your child to meet you at a designated location, or allow you to meet them at the nearest crosswalk as soon as they exit the building.
The three other most critical items to help with our traffic flow after school are below:
- Pull around. Although you may have arrived at school early to get a prime spot right near the crosswalk, we need the inner lane of traffic to continuously be moving. If your child does not come out of the building a few minutes after the bell rings, please pull into the middle lane and do a lap around campus so that others can move forward.
- Pull forward. If you see space in front of your vehicle, please pull forward so that we can get as many cars in the inner lane as possible.
- Only pick up in the inner lane. Please do not stop in the middle lane of traffic and have your students load into the vehicle. Not only does this create a backup in the middle lane, but it is also extremely dangerous for your children.
Again, thank you so much for your help as we strive to be both efficient and safe with our traffic pattern.

Library News
Christmas Book Checkout
Students are welcome to keep their library books over Christmas break. In fact, students in grades 1-8 will be able to choose one extra book if they would like to. You may notice that all books checked out prior to Christmas break will be marked as due on Monday, January 6. However, we will renew all books due on January 6 automatically when we return from break. This will give one additional loan period (1 week for grades K-2 and 2 weeks for grades 3-8) for each book due on that day.
Also, you will likely receive an automated email next week notifying you that your child’s books are due in “1 school day” or “2 school days.” This is referring to the January 6 due date since none of the days of Christmas break are counted. You can ignore this email.
