Missions Emphasis Weeks at a Glance

Each year, we dedicate two weeks in March to focus on missions throughout our school. This is a beloved tradition at WCGS as our students get to learn in and out of the classroom about service and missionary experiences. The Missions Emphasis Weeks for the 2018-2019 school year took place on March 4-15. Here’s a quick snapshot of the weeks:

Missions Emphasis weeks kicked off with a special chapel featuring a skit by our teachers about learning how to get out of the boat and be bold in sharing your faith. The theme for this year is “Get out of the Boat!”

Our teachers introduced the theme song for this year’s missions emphasis. “Be bold! Be strong! For the Lord your God is with you!”

Missionaries visited most grade levels to talk about their journey of getting out of the boat and being bold in their faith.

1st grade teacher, Sue Harvatic, shared with her class about the time she and her husband spent on the mission field in Kenya. The Lord has called Sue and her husband back to Kenya and they will be returning later this year.

Many classes went to Windsor Park Manor and Feed My Starving Children over the past couple of weeks.

Our Kindergarten classes went to Build-a-Bear to make bears for children served by ECFA. A representative came to WCGS and received the bears to take back for the children.

7th grade students packed boxes for Loaves and Fishes with donated items.

The closing chapel for Missions Emphasis Weeks brought the entire school community together to reflect on the work the Lord has done and is continuing to do.

Our Praise Team led the school in worship to begin the chapel. While everyone was singing, our students brought forth their offerings for the Dominican Republic and Kids Alive.

We commissioned our Father/Son and Mother/Daughter mission trips by praying over them as a community. They are giving up their spring break to serve the Lord in the DR.

The new “Big Map” was presented which features WCGS alumni serving the Lord full-time throughout the world. This map is hung up in our main hallway and gets updated every year.

Students also gave testimonies about what they have learned during Missions Emphasis. Afterward, the community watched clips from Pastor Andrew Brunson’s talk that he gave to Wheaton College last week. Our students learned about the presence of God and how to trust him in hard times.

We had so much fun learning more about our Lord over the past few weeks. We can’t wait to see the fruit of His work in our students’ lives as we move forward in the school year.
