God Writes Your Child’s Story

Have you ever had someone remind you, “God writes your child’s story”? As my two children journeyed through Wheaton Christian Grammar School, I remember more than a few teachers in nine years assuring me and my husband that God was working in (Philippians 2:13) and through (Ephesians 2:10) our children, as a trustworthy, sovereign, and loving Heavenly Father. It can be finger-biting hard, in the rollercoaster race of life, as the influencers of culture encroach, to trust God with our children. However, you can trust God, for He is both faithful (Deuteronomy 7:9) and good (Proverbs 3:5-6). God’s got your back as a parent and your child’s back too (Joshua 1:9)! And… You never face the roller coaster race of life alone (Isaiah 41:10). You are part of God’s family and the WCGS family!

Together, we strengthen and uphold each other in God’s powerful name. What an amazing opportunity and responsibility. This is why we began the WCGS Parent Series, Continuing the Discussion. We believe in the power of working together to:

  • Strengthen the school-home partnership with parents
  • Provide families with awareness, resources, and support from experts of timely topics
  • Reinforce the child’s developing biblical worldview

God has given parents the responsibility of “training up your child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). I like the way the Message reframes this verse, “start children off on the way they should go and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.” What an assurance that God empowers you in Scripture, through the work of the Holy Spirit, and in collaboration with other believers, to train and nurture your children. Whether it is developing your child to be a digital disciple (a follower of Christ who uses technology responsibly and intentionally to represent the Gospel through social media), or navigating the sweeping current of culture defensively with Truth, respect, and love, without conforming, or offensively working to stockpile your child’s mental and emotional warehouses with biblical truth, each step, every effort, is accomplished through like-minded partnership, empowered by a gracious God who desires to be known by you and your child. We pray you Continue the Discussion with us and the greatest Author ever, as He writes your child’s story.
