Library Media Center
Library Media Center
We’re thankful for this bright and cheerful space equipped with more than 19,000 volumes, projection screen, SMART technology, ten computer carrels, and a mobile computer lab to assist in classroom research projects. Our staff stands ready to assist students in finding the latest must-read book or providing direction for a research project. Mrs. Jennifer Brown, Library Media Specialist, is assisted by Mrs. Jennifer Pierson.
The links below provide helpful online resources for our students. Log-in information will be provided to parents when the school year begins. For assistance, please e-mail Mrs. Brown.
LMC Mission Statement
The WCGS Library Media Center program exists to provide students with literature that supports the WCGS mission and curriculum, challenges students to develop and engage their Christian worldview, and encourages and fosters a lifelong love of reading and ongoing discernment as a follower of Christ.
Curriculum
K-5: All students in the elementary grades visit the library once per week. In addition to checking out books, students learn library skills, information literacy skills, and hear read-aloud stories.
6-8: Middle school students may visit the library on their own or for information literacy lessons to accompany the classroom curriculum.
Events
We hold a Book Fair in November, a Used Book Exchange in May, and a Summer Reading Program from June through August.

K-1, Monarch Award
Early elementary students will participate in the Illinois Monarch Children’s Choice Award by listening to carefully selected nominated books during their visits to the library and voting on their favorite book in March. Follow the link to review this year’s nominated books.
3-5, Accelerated Reader
Upper elementary students (grades 3-5) use the Accelerated Reader program to monitor reading progress on their independent reading. We subscribe to Renaissance Enterprise, which allows students to have access to all AR tests, not just those for books in our library. You can use the Accelerated Reader Book Finder to view AR information for books obtained from the public library or elsewhere. The Renaissance Home Connect link allows parents to view their child’s progress in AR.
Jr. High Reading Program
Grades 6-8 have a new program in which students can vote for their favorite books!
