COVID-19 Update from the WCGS Nurses

Dear WCGS Community-

What glorious sunshine we have to greet us today!  And what a blessing it is to be able to communicate remotely with one another while we are apart.

We understand that you do not need more reminders to wash your hands, stay 6 feet away from each other, “don’t leave your house if you’re sick,” et cetera, et cetera.  Therefore, we will not be filling your inboxes regularly with health alerts while we await our return to community, but will instead be available via email to answer any health questions or concerns that you may have.

Today we will share just three important items with you:

  1. If anyone in your household receives a positive diagnosis of COVID-19, please email this information to nurse@wheatonchristian.org.  This information is for standard monitoring purposes only and remains confidential medical information.  We do not need reports of any other diagnosed illnesses while we are not in school together.
  2. Be mindful of where you are receiving your information.  There are many myths and rumors circulating about the virus, ways to stay healthy, and how our local, state and federal government is intervening to stem transmission of it through communities.  Please do not contribute to the spread of misinformation and instead WAIT AND VERIFY everything you hear.  The most reliable sites that maintain the most up-to-date and factual information are the CDC, the National Institutes of Health, Illinois Department of Public Health, and the DuPage County Health Department.
  3. If your family is unable to leave your home for any reason, please know that the WCGS Auxiliary Committee is ready to help.  The Sunshine Committee, headed up by Ali Amato, can connect with you and help coordinate getting you meals and groceries.  You may email nurse@wheatonchristian.org with a request for help, or contact Ali Amato directly at alipamato@hotmail.com or (913)706-2798.

As Believers, we strive to see the beauty in all things.  Here is a short devotional that was shared with us from Nurses Christian Fellowship that offers a perspective of hope and beauty:

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.  See, I am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?  I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Isaiah 43:18

The devotional continues; “As we look out into the world, we may not be convinced of this.  But rest assured, the Lord is not silent, distant, or absent from what is going on around us.  He is at work and is doing something new in our world and culture.  Our God is so big and so powerful, the changes around us might just be what ushers in a new movement of God.  We can move forward with faith, trust, and hope in his ability to work all things for good amidst changing times!”

With very sincere TRUST, FAITH and HOPE that we will see you all soon,

Amy Cockrell, RN, and Danette Farrell, RN
