Summer Notes – August 3, 2023

(For our new families, this is the first edition of our weekly newsletter sent out to school families each Thursday throughout the school year.)

From Mr. Brooke’s Desk

2023-24 Year VerseIt is my hope that these summer months have been a blessing to you and your family.  While the WCGS building has been much quieter without our wonderful students and families, much has been done to prepare for the upcoming school year.  I am honored to welcome all of you to the 2023-24 school year and am expectant for all that the Lord will do in and through WCGS.  Our year verse continues to be a foundation for the year, and I am thrilled to share that this year’s focus will be on Jeremiah 29:11.

Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

This verse teaches and reminds us that we serve a Sovereign God who is powerful and good.  While the book of Jeremiah includes some challenging news for the Israelites, it is also filled with a picture of hope.  We rest in the hope of Jesus Christ as our Savior.  With each day at WCGS, it is my prayer that our entire community grows in our faith and trust in the One who had great plans for the Israelites and for us.  I am overwhelmed by how good God is and I am so passionate about our students growing in their knowledge and understanding of Him.  I would ask that you pray that the Lord would reveal Himself to our community in a way that causes us to sing His praises and worship His name in all that we do.

As we unpack Jeremiah 29:11 this year, we will focus on three key themes throughout our chapel program.

1. Sovereign God

2. Flourishing Kingdom

3. People of Hope

These three themes will be described in more detail throughout the year and I look forward to all that God will guide us toward as we study His Word together.

I can’t wait to see our faculty and staff engage with our students and families this year.  May God alone be glorified by the 2023-24 school year.

Updated Thursday Notes

We hope you enjoy this new format for Thursday Notes. We have updated our format so that you are able to read the notes easily in your inbox and can search for keywords and announcements. In addition, we will be archiving Thursday Notes on our school website so you will have easy access to each week’s notes. The Thursday Notes archive will be accessible on the website under the “Parents” Tab and is also linked here. Additionally, we have added a weekly digital book of school photos for families to enjoy!

Stop by at this open house to check out some of the many ways you can get involved at WCGS. This is also a great opportunity to meet and greet many other WCGS parents as well. Don’t miss it! (In case of inclement weather, this event will be held in the Commons.)

Picture Day is Thursday, August 31, during normal school hours. We will again be using JostensPix to capture smiles. JostensPix offer the availability to preview pictures online before purchase, to personalize your background, to buy exactly what you want at an affordable price, and photos will be shipped directly to your home! Previewing, personalization, ordering, and payment will all take place online at No picture forms! You will receive a flyer and an email with more specifics in the coming days. Please note that all students will be photographed for the yearbook, but there is no obligation to make a purchase. If a student is absent on picture day, re-takes will take place on Friday, October 6.

Urgent and Exciting Need

We have a pressing need to hire additional Recess Supervisors for this coming school year.  This is a paid position, and a wonderful opportunity to serve the school and your children on a weekly basis, with a minimal time commitment.  Just think – you get to be outside, interacting and playing with our precious students (your children!) on days that work best in your own schedule!  Also, as a change from last year, the supervisors will only be monitoring recess (there is no lunch supervision needed).  The first recess is for K-2 students and is from 11:50 a.m.-12:10 p.m.  The second recess is for grades 3-5 and is from 12:14-12:34 p.m.  So in summary, we would ask that our recess supervisors are on campus from approximately 11:45 a.m-12:40 p.m.  We would appreciate your help anywhere from one day a week to five days a week. If you are interested in serving, please reach out to Beth Wright so that we can provide you with more information about this opportunity. Thank you!
