Clubs and After-school Activities

WCGS offers a good range of after-school clubs and activities.

Wheaton Christian Grammar School offers a solid array of after-school clubs and activities. These are in addition to our athletic team opportunities and available music group participation!

Winter online registration will take place from December 11, 2017 through January 8, 2018.  Winter/spring clubs begin the week of January 16, 2018 and will be 10-week sessions from 3:30-4:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

All club registration will take place through ParentsWeb.

INSTRUCTIONS for selecting desired CLUB(s) are as follows:
1.       Log into ParentsWeb
2.       Click on Student Information
3.       Click on Course Requests
4.       Select Child (Student)
5.       Select desired course(s) from dropdown below each course title
6.       Click SAVE.

Club fees (if applicable) are added to your school bill.
There will be no refunds for fall clubs after Friday, January 19, 2018.

Current Clubs

Art

Creative Arts I, Grades 1-2, Tuesdays
Creative Arts II, Grades 3-5, Wednesdays

Art is exciting and fun! Projects include: pipe cleaner winter fun, giant snowflakes, newspaper critters, mitten wreaths, newspaper crosses, and string art. Students will enjoy the freedom of expression in these art classes exploring different techniques and uses of media. Different artists will be discussed. The same projects will be done for both groups but will be modified for the younger class.

Master Studio, Grades 6-8, Thursdays

ALL NEW – Love that Smartphone CAMERA?! This class is for you.

Come learn more tips, techniques, and tricks for taking pictures. We will take some of those favorite pics and turn them into a modge-podge project.

Fee:  $75

Foreign Language

Spanish, Grades 1-5, Mondays

After-school foreign language clubs provide a fun learning environment to help students put their foreign language into practice. Activities are geared as much as possible to the general level in the class. Every effort is made to assist beginners and challenge the language skills of students who are further along.

Fee: $75

Maximum 15 students per class.

Lego Robotics Club

Grades 5-8, Thursdays

This fun club will present a hands-on, interactive opportunity that captivates children’s interest in science and technology as they master the dynamics of teamwork and problem-solving. Students will build and test a robot. Please contact Mrs. Jacqueline Lauriat at if you have any questions.

Writing Club

Grade 2 Only, Wednesdays through May 16

Gives second graders a chance to write in a relaxed atmosphere. Students work on skills taught in the classroom and have fun at the same time. Session ends with a book given to each club member composed of stories contributed by each child.

Activities

Battle of the Books

Young Adult Battle of the Books, Grades 6-8

Practices will be Mondays and Thursday, before school from 7:45 - 8:30 a.m. and on Tuesdays after school until 4:15 p.m. Meets take place in October and November.

Battle of the Books, Grades 4-5

Practice days are flexible during lunch and after school. Practices begin the last week of September and run through the beginning of March. Meets start in January (8 total) at the Wheaton Public Library. Students will need to read as many of the 50 books as possible and at least half before they compete in a meet. Chess Team

Chess Team, Grades K-8, Tuesdays (3:30 - 4:30 p.m.) OR Thursdays (3:30 - 4:30 p.m.)
*USCF Ratings >600 meet Tuesday 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

The WCGS Chess Team is open to all interested players in grades K-8. No prior knowledge of chess is required but students new to chess should sign up for the “introduction to chess” class to be held on four consecutive days from Monday, September 11 through Thursday, September 14, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

The Chess Team meets from September through March and participates in a number of local tournaments. Click here for information on how to register, practice times, and tournaments. Registration must be completed by September 8. For questions please contact Rose Grandy (Parent Coordinator) at .

Fee: $150 for the year (plus the cost of a team shirt). Parents should note that this commitment (and fee) is for the entire school year and as with other activities requiring fees, there will be no refund after September 15.

Additional co-curricular activities include Student Council, numerous athletic teams, and many musical groups. The Jr. High musical auditions take place in January, in preparation for performances in late April.
