Four WCGS Students Receive Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Four WCGS students received awards for their writing pieces in February 2019.

*UPDATE* The results from the national judging were announced on March 13, 2019. 8th grade student Vander England won a silver medal for his modern fable.

Wheaton Christian Grammar School 8th grade students, Audrey Brcka, Vander England, Dylan Ochs, and Anna Wank, received recognition and awards from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Competition in February. Anna received an honorable mention for her journalism piece, and Dylan received a Silver Key for her poem in the regional competition. Audrey (short story) and Vander (humor writing) both won Gold Key regional awards and have moved on to national judging in New York City to be considered for national honors. These national honors would entail a gold or silver medal and a special achievement award. The results from the national judging will be announced on March 13, 2019.

Beginning in 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards' mission is to "identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards." Students in grades 7–12 (ages 13 and up) from public, private, or home schools can apply in 29 categories of art and writing for their chance to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited and published. All across America, students submitted nearly 350,000 original works this year.

This is the first year WCGS has been a part of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, submitting 10 pieces. Next year WCGS is hoping to send in more because of the vast array of categories that this organization offers.
