What are Our Alumni Up to Now?

David Prichard began attending WCGS in 8th grade after moving from the suburbs of Washington, D.C. where he also attended a private Christian school. From an early age, he had a passion to both understand and teach God’s Word. His interest was strengthened and nurtured in his home, at WCGS, at Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference, and during his time at Wheaton Academy. David continued his education at Moody Bible Institute, studying Biblical Studies and Children and Family Ministries. He married his wife Allyson soon after graduating from Moody, and they now have two children that keep life extra full and extra fun! David is currently pursuing his Master in Theology from Biola University’s Talbot School of Theology.

David leads the 5th and 6th grade ministry at Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He believes that young children are far more capable of grasping deep Biblical topics than many may expect. He develops lesson plans with deep theology, practical lessons, and apologetics through his current series, “Apologia: A Study of Worldview and Apologetics”. As David reflects on his time at WCGS, he shared, “It is very evident how intentional the teachers were to help a new kid like me succeed. I was challenged to grow, grew a lot, and was cared for well.” David continued, “One of the major highlights of my time at WCGS was the intentionality of the teachers to help me to actually learn and engage with the material I was being taught. Teachers put in extra effort to help me feel like I was in an environment that would help me to learn and be able to grow. I also will never forget the chance I had to share my testimony at graduation, which came as a shock to me as a new 8th grader.”

When asked how his growing up and education at WCGS impacted his current career path, he explained, “For as long as I can remember I felt called to ministry. I attribute all of the schools I grew up in as a contributing factor. Interestingly enough, this year I am teaching a curriculum I wrote on apologetics to our 5th and 6th graders and used the Lightbearers curriculum as an inspiration book which we went through during my 8th grade year at WCGS!

God is working in and through David as he serves his church. He shared, “In this day and age, being able to inspire the next generation that Christianity is not just a thing for their parents but for them is rewarding work. I get to help students see that they are able to be a light for Christ in a dark world and make their small spheres of influence a better place for the glory of God. Our young people are struggling with so much these days. Depression, anxiety, and identity issues are running rampant, and the local church is an incredibly important institution, built by God to help all people, including children and students, form a clearer view of who they are in Christ.” What excites David the most about his work right now is getting to spend so much time with God. He expounded, “Not only am I able to grow myself, but I also get to see students and parents grow in their faith by bringing challenging curriculum and opening up room for deep conversations”. God is at work through David as he creates a unique youth group atmosphere that desires for every student to be known, loved, cared for, and trained up in truth. He and Allyson delight in partnering with their church, and Allyson has invested in the Young Families ministry. They are grateful for the work God has prepared for them and look forward to all the Lord has in store!
