WCGS Music Department Welcomes You!
Music is recognized as a valuable asset to a student's development, and is highly valued in our lives as Christians. At WCGS, we seek to give each student the opportunity to develop his/her musical abilities to their fullest. Our school offers a numbers of options to help students in their musical development. We offer the following opportunities:
Beginning Band
This group is open to all students who are beginning a band instrument. This group meets once a week and performs two times during the school year. Director - Mrs. Carol Knosp
Beginning Strings
This group is open to all students who are beginning a string instrument. This group meets once a week and performs two times during the school year. Director - Mrs. Carol Knosp
Cadet Band
This group is open to students who have played a band instrument for at least one year. This group meets twice a week and performs two times during the school year. Director - Mr. David Wright
Cadet Strings
This group is open to students who have played a string instrument for at least one year. This group meets twice a week and performs two times during the school year. Director - Mrs. Carol Knosp
Concert Band
This group is open to sixth through eighth grade students who play a band instrument at a more advanced level. This group meets twice a week and performs several times throughout the school year. Students are admitted to this group by audition. Director - Mr. David Wright
Concert Orchestra
This group is open to sixth through eighth grade students who have play a string instrument at a more advanced level. This group meets two to three times a week and performs several times throughout the school year. Students are admitted to this group by audition. Director - Mrs. Carol Knosp
Jazz Ensemble
This group is open to sixth through eighth grade students by audition. This group meets twice a week and performs several times throughout the school year. Jazz Ensemble includes the following instruments: saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, and drums. Director - Mr. David Wright
Sixth Grade Choir
This training choir is open to all sixth grade students. This group meets twice a week and will perform in two concerts during the school year. Director - Mr. David Wright
Concert Choir
This group is open to seventh and eighth grade students by audition. This group meets twice a week and will perform several times throughout the school year. Director - Mr. David Wright
Junior High Praise Team
This group is open to seventh and eighth grade students by audition. This group rehearses once a week and leads worship at monthly chapel services. Director - Mr. David Wright
Additional musical opportunities include participation in the IMEA District Music Festival (for qualified students), ACSI Music Festival, IGSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest, fine arts recitals, concerts, nursing home performances, Christmas Yorktown Mall concert, and the Junior High Spring Musical.
