Frequently Asked Questions

Do you currently have openings?
We usually have some openings throughout the year, but the grade level availability varies. Please call Mrs. Cornman, at ext. 212, to check on current availability.

How far in advance must I apply for my prospective kindergartner?
Kindergarten classes fill up quickly, and it is not unusual for us to receive applications three or four years before a child is to begin kindergarten. While we may have last minute openings, it is wise to apply as early as possible. Priority is given to current school families.

When will I know if there are openings for a particular grade for the next school year?
Our current school family goes through a re-enrollment process in March and April of each year. After that initial indication of how many families plan to return we will begin to contact waiting pool families. Last minute openings can occur at any time through the summer months.

Would I qualify for financial aid?
Financial aid is available and is based on need. Factors taken into consideration include family income, number of dependants, number of children enrolled at WCGS, and special extenuating circumstances. Applications are reviewed by the school's financial aid committee which includes school administrators, business personnel and Board members. During the 2008*2009 school year, the general thresholds for financial are as follows:

Family gross income
Less than $50,000 per year = up to 60% financial aid.
from $50-$60,000 per year = up to 50% financial aid.
from $60-$70,000 per year = up to 40% financial aid.
from $70-$80,000 per year = up to 30% financial aid.
from $80-$90,000 per year = up to 20% financial aid.
from $90-$100,000 per year = up to 10% financial aid.

Applications for aid are generally processed after a student has been accepted.

My child has special needs. Can WCGS provide special services?
The Kaleidoscope program is an individualized approach that helps students overcome learning disabilities to become successful, independent learners. Qualified, caring, state-certified educational therapists provide individualized, intensive mediated instruction during two 80-minute sessions per week. Students applying to the school who have need for such services will be considered first under the normal admissions protocol, and second according to Kaleidoscope availability and eligibility. Eligibility diagnosis is based on a two-part psycho-educational battery of tests which identifies areas of perceptual and cognitive strengths and weaknesses. When a significant discrepancy exists between a student's ability and achievement, enrollment in Kaleidoscope may be recommended. Participating families pay a fee for this service, assist their child with certain home assignments, and attend periodic meetings and observation sessions.
